Monarch Butterfly Craft

We've been learning about different kinds of butterflies, and enjoying our Blue Morpho Butterfly wings, so to go with our recent Butterfly work  we wanted to create our own Monarch butterflies.

I printed out this great printable from Learn Create Love.

I love using trays to contain messes and always use them for activities and crafts.  Easy to transport, easy to clean.  This one is from Ikea.

We've done some Q-tip painting before in the past, I like bringing this out instead of big paint brushes because it brings more fine motor skills into the activity.  The spaces in the Monarch butterfly printable was perfect for Q-tips.

All we needed was some orange paint.

I let Butterfly and her friends work away at it outside in the fresh air.

We had taken Butterfly to the Flight of the Butterflies 3D IMAX and she learned a lot about their migration, flight, and feeding patterns, seeing them in action.

When her painting was dry, she got her scissors and glue and a blue sky paper to finish her creation!
