Summer Sensory!

Happy Summer everyone!
In July, my husband and I celebrated our 10th wedding anniversary!
He bought me these beautiful wedding roses!

When they started wilting, before they completely dried up, I had an idea...

let's take all the petals off and make a soft silky sensory bin for Butterfly!!

Just to put your hands through rose petals is a wonderful sensory!
So soft and smells so pretty!!

And Butterfly enjoyed it! ... along with our kitchen floor by the end of it, hehe.

Speaking of Summer Sensory bins, here's another one I brought out for Butterfly.
Beach Counting!

I used aquarium sand, very fine and soft, got sea shells from our dollar store, along with a package of pearls.  I wrote numbers in the shells, Butterfly and I put the shells in number order in the sand and she counted out the pearls to put the right amount in each shell's indicated number.

Afterwards, she got the pearls out, and Butterfly used the larger shells as shovels and dug and poured fine sand into one another while playing in the sand bin.

Hope you're all having a great summer!  We've been taking it slow and relaxing a lot, which has been wonderful!
Next up, Butterfly and I are going to be doing an Oceans Unit!  More to come...

  1. Awesome ideas! We're going to get some sea shells tomorrow!

  2. Awesome!! I love both your ideas, but especially the rose petals one! I would have NOT thought of that - how clever! :) I'm all for getting the most bang for the use of something, so that works perfectly - pretty AND functional :P

  3. i'm in love with the pearls in the shell counting activity!!! and now i just want to go soak my hands in rose petals ;]

  4. Beautiful flowers, and I love how you used them for your daughter. What a wonderful idea.

The beach counting set, too cool!
I am going to have to do something similar for my youngest.

    Very creative! I like it!

  5. Thanks everyone for your positive responses! :))
