Bye Bye Letter B!

We have come to the end of Letter B and Number 2 week!  Here's the fun we had:

Our number and alphabet review chart- putting the next sticker on.

Alphie the robot letter and number games

B road- driving/ tracing (laminated black paper cut-out, used white pencil for the road lines.)

Writing B in a paint bag

Peg Board- We made a B with coloured elastic bands then Butterfly put pegs in along the lines of the bands to make her B.

 Butterfly's favourite: painting!

Butterfly had her friends over this week, we played Bears, since bears is one of our B words.  Going with the hibernating lesson, we built a cave! And played a little hibernating game.  When I said words of warm weather (like Spring, Summer, hot sun, flowers), the bears came out of the cave, when I said words of colder weather (like Winter, snow, cold) the bears all crawled into their cave!  They loved this game!

 Scratch N Coloured a B

Practiced scissor cutting from a Carson-Dellosa Scissor Skills book we have.  Bringing the Birds (B word!) to their nests!

We worked our next pages for our Craft book.  Capital B for butterfly and a lower case b for bunny.
Hint:  Shaking glitter in a pan/tray makes clean-up so much easier! :)

 Butterfly got a butterfly tatoo!

Sorting capitals and lower case B's.
Sorting three different sized butterflies.- I had made this one into a file folder.

 Butterfly puzzle

Matching up capitals and lower case butterflies with the same coloured sides.

 Practicing writing Bb.

Butterfly Writing booklet. (Laminated card, using an O-ring to bind them together.)

 Handwriting sheets

Butterfly enjoyed  felt board stories, songs, and fingerplays with her friends!

We sang Wheels on the Bus

The stages of a Butterfly.

Here are some of the songs/ poems we used:

Sung to:  "Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star"

Flutter, flutter, butterfly.
Floating in the summer sky.
Floating by for all to see,
Floating by so merrily.
Flutter, flutter, butterfly,
Floating in the summer sky.

Roly-poly caterpillar (wiggle right pointer finger)
Into a corner crept, (place right pointer finger in left cupped hand)
Spun around himself a blanket (spin around)
Then for a long time slept. (place head on folded hands)
Roly-poly caterpillar (wiggle right pointer finger)
Wakening by and by, ("stretch" right pointer finger)
Found himself with beautiful wings
Changed to a butterfly. (flutter arms like wings)

Fuzzy wuzzy caterpillar in the garden creeps
He spins himself a blanket and soon falls fast asleep.
Fuzzy wuzzy caterpillar wakes up by and by
To find he has wings of beauty, changed to a butterfly.

Pretty little butterfly, what do you do all day?
I fly around the flowerpots, nothing' to do but play.
Nothing' to do but play, darling', nothing' to do but play.
So fly butterfly, fly butterfly, don't waste your time away.

I spin and spin my chrysalis
Then go to rest inside
When I come out
I've changed indeed...
Look! I'm a butterfly!

Sung to: "Skip to My Lou"

I'm a butterfly, come fly with me
I'm a butterfly, come fly with me
I'm a butterfly, come fly with me
Come fly with me, my darling

A butterfly, come drink nectar with me
A butterfly, come drink nectar with me
A butterfly, come drink nectar with me
Drink nectar with me, my darling.

A butterfly, now sleep like me
A butterfly, now sleep like me
A butterfly, now sleep like me
Come sleep like me, my darling.

Sung to: "Oh Christmas Tree"

Oh, butterfly, Oh, butterfly
How I love your colors.
Oh, butterfly, Oh, butterfly
How I love your colors.
You fly so high and beautiful,
Your so soft and gentle.
Oh, butterfly, Oh, butterfly,
How I love your colors.

Five little bunnies standing by the door,
One hopped away, and then there were four.
Four little bunnies sitting near a tree,
One hopped away, and then there were three.
Three little bunnies looking at you,
One hopped away and then there were two.
Two little bunnies enjoying the sun,
One hopped away, and then there was one.
One little bunny sitting all alone,
He hopped away, and then there were none!

The first little bunny went hop, hop, hop.
I said to the first bunny, "Stop, stop, stop!"
The second little bunny went run, run, run.
I said to the second bunny, "Fun, fun, fun!"
The third little bunny went thump, thump, thump.
I said to the third bunny, "Jump, jump, jump!"
The fourth little bunny went sniff, sniff, snuff.
I said to the fourth bunny, "That is enough!"
The fifth little bunny went creep, creep, creep.
I said to the fifth bunny, "It's time to sleep!"

Here is a bunny with ears so funny
And here is his hole in the ground
When a noise he hears, he pricks up his ears
And hops in his hole in the ground.

One little bunny,
Wondering what to do,
another bunny came along,
Then there were two.
Two little bunnies,
Hopping like me,
Another bunny came along,
Then there were three.
Three little bunnies,
Jumping around outdoors,
Another bunny joined them,
Then there were four.
Four little bunnies,
So fluffy and alive,
Another bunny joined them,
Then there were five.
Five little bunnies,
Ready for some fun,
Hopped away in the
Warm, spring sun.

 Bumble Bees

One little bee blew and flew.
He met a friend, and that made two.

Two little bees, busy as could be--
Along came another and that made three.

Three little bees, wanted one more,
Found one soon and that made four.

Four little bees, going to the hive.
Spied their little brother, and that made five.

Five little bees working every hour--
Buzz away, bees, and find another flower.

One little honeybee by my window flew;
Soon came another - then there were two.
Two happy honeybees in the apple tree;
One more bee came buzzing up - then there were three.
Three busy honeybees starting to explore
Another bee came to help - then there were four.
Four laden honeybees flying to the hive;
They were joined by one more bee - then there were five.
Five tired honeybees with the others mix;
Now there's a swarm of them - a hundred times six.

Sung to: "Jingle Bells"

Bumble Bee, bumble bee,
Landing on my nose,
Bumble bee, bumble bee,
Now he's on my toes.

On my arms, on my legs,
On my elbows.
Bumble bee, oh bumble bee
He lands, and then he goes.

6 buzzing bumblebees
Flying around the hive
One buzzes off and that leaves 5.
5 buzzing bumblebees
Flying near my door,
1 buzzes off and that leaves 4
4 buzzing bumblebees
Flying around a tree,
1 busses off and that leaves 3
3 buzzing bumblebees
In the sky so blue
1 buzzes of and that leaves 2
2 buzzing bumblebees
Flying by the sun
1 buzzes off and that leaves 1
1 buzzing bumblebee
Looking for some fun
It buzzes off and that leaves none.

Five little busy bees on a day so sunny.
Number one said, I’d like to make some honey.
Number two said, Tell me where shall it be?
Number three said, In the old honey-tree.
Number four said, Let’s gather nectar sweet.
Number five said, Let’s take pollen on our feet.
Humming their busy little honeybee song.

Here is the beehive, where are the bees
Hidden away were nobody sees
Watch and you will see them come out of their hives,
One, two, three, four, five,
Buzz, buzz, buzz.

I'm bringing home my baby bumblebee
Won't my mommy be so proud of me
I'm bringing home my baby bumblebee
ooh, eee, it stung me!

I'm letting go my baby bumblebee
Won't my mommy be so proud of me
I'm letting go my baby bumblebee
Bye. Bye. Bumblebee!

Spelling the word Butterfly in capitals and lower case

I bought this sticker book of different types of butterflies from here.

So in one of my clumsy kitchen acts, I spilled a pile of straws all over the floor, instead of washing them all, my husband said, "Why not make letters out of these?"  Brilliant hubby I have!  So straws are now included in our activities, we made a B!
We also used the letter builders to create the capital and lower case B.

Decorating our B sheets with butterfly stamps, the colour blue, buttons; and butterfly, bunny, and bee stickers!  Butterfly had fun doing this activity with her friends this week as well.

Bingo Dabbing and circle stickers with the colour Blue!

We used Bells on this circle page.

Some counting pages with stone gems.

  Making the number 2!

 Practicing the number two.

How many Butterflies? game.  I put a certain amount of butterflies on the page, and my little Butterfly counted them and put the right associating number in the box!

Counting paper clips.  Putting the right amount of clips on the number butterfly.  This was the first time Butterfly used paper clips.

No laughing at Mommy's homemade painted wooden dice now :)
Butterfly loves dice game... great for counting and associating the numbers.

Cutting, gluing the right number beside the amount of butterflies in each box.

Shapes file folder game- matching and naming

Magnetic foam shapes on a baking pan.  This was a design I made for Butterfly (tracing the shapes, coloured them in and laminated the paper).  She matched the shapes to make the design.

We used these shapes for tracing and rubbing.  I cut pieces of cardboard and drew the shapes on them, then used a hot glue gun to make the shape, so it's 'bubbled out' of the paper.  Butterfly first traces the shape with her finger, says the name of them, then we place it under a piece of paper and use the side of a crayon (Melissa & Dough triangular crayons work great for this!) to rub and the shape comes right up on the paper!
I think I might create hot glue prints for letters and numbers as well for more rubbing pictures.

Cutting and gluing to finish the patterns, shape tracing booklet.

 B sheets to colour

Kumon's Let's Color book, our next page was Bananas! how perfect for another B word! Using the right colour to fill in the blank space.

Our next entry in our Nature Journal.

Our Scavenger Hunt game!

Blue, ball, bunnies, butterfly, banana holder, book, bib... and check out that broccoli! :)

C for Caterpillars is next!  And number 3! - the age of my Butterfly :)
