So today we went to our weekly Library Storytime with our friends... and guess what today's storytime theme was about? ...BEARS! Our Librarian had books on bears and the letter B, and songs with BELLS. How perfect for my little Butterfly this week!
We took out some of the Bear books from the Library today that they had out and came home and found a few more Bear books from our homeschooling shelf as well!
We then got our felt board out and enjoyed Goldilocks and Three Bears story again (Butterfly's favourite!) She has learnt the term "medium" from this story, learning the three different sizes.
And then we got out our Bear Hunt story board and read it with the famous "We're Going on a Bear Hunt" story. I made this story board back in the Spring when we had some friends over for a Teddy Bear's Picnic together in the backyard. I've used velcro on the board and on the people so Butterfly can move the picture of the kids along as they go through each stage in their adventure.
Talking about bears so much brought us to places in the books about bears "hibernating"... we are that time of the year now where animals are busy getting ready for their long winter's nap. So after talking about this subject with Butterfly, we decided to go off curriculum course again and build an out-of-the-blue Craft!
We made a hibernating bear puppet and cave!
A tissue box covered in felt- black for cave rock and white covering for fresh snow! Even silver glitter for some icicles at the cave door. There is an open slit along the bottom of the box so the bear puppet can travel from inside the cave to outside the cave, while holding onto the pipe cleaner handle!
To make the bear, we cut a bear shape out of cardboard, taped it to a popsicle stick, glued pom poms on for ears, nose, and paws and then googley eyes!
Our bear can travel in and out of it's cave for hibernation!
